XFM - Christmas FM????

Back to work! I must be in a good mood – I don’t mind being at work. As much as I have fun in Dark Ages, I don’t want to be in there 24/7. That’d be kinda like hanging out with friends 24/7. Eventually you’re going to get tired and want to be alone for a while, doing something else. Oh, I never mentioned! Last Monday I got picked up at the bus exchange by my old friend, Shelley! It seems her and her boyfriend, Danny, are back in town! They’d moved to Alberta with Crystal and Shawna a few years back (Crystal is Danny’s older sister). Crystal moved back earlier this year. It was good to see Shelley again! Of course, I don’t expect to see her again for a while.. she’s always been that way. Oh well. We’re going to try to get the lot of us together for a Christmas party, so that’ll be fun! It’ll be all the old gang (well, except for Glenna and Naomi, who are long gone, and also weren’t part of the “original” gang anyway) plus Kok, because she’s met everyone and is a part of it now too! We’re going to try to get in touch with Cyndi (Shelley’s old best friend, Crystal’s cousin) too, as it’s been ages since anyone’s seen her! When I started grade 8, Cyndi and Shelley were the first friends that I made. In grade 9, Crystal moved to town and we didn’t actually become friends, but she was part of the group. Her and I didn’t become friends until grade 10, and even then, we didn’t become really good friends until we lived together long after grad. Now she’s like a sister! We’re closer than I am with Cyndi or Shelley. It’s funny how the times change things.

Oh, the strangest thing happened yesterday. I was listening to XFM, which I had been listening to all night the night before too. It was normal, with normal DJs talking about contests and events like usual. I think there was supposed to be an event with XFM listeners and the group “Hot Hot Heat” either that night, or soon. Also, there was a new contest where if you heard some guy singing “Let it Snow” very badly, you call in to win. This was all being talked about as I listened to the station like normal. Then, sometime between 11:30 and 12:00, after a commercial, instead of returning to music a track of Christmas bells played for a bit, then a Christmas song came on. I thought it was rather odd, but stayed for a bit thinking maybe it was some kinda weird “Merry Christmas” thing between the real music. Then, a voice said, “104.9 Christmas FM” and more Christmas music played. Uh.. yeah. Eventually, I just turned it off and played cds. Later, I turned it on again. Christmas music. I went to their website, which used to be a multi-media experience filled with news, contest info, song lists, etc.. and it was a single page saying “104.9 Christmas FM” in large letters. Nothing else. I tuned into the other rock station, C-Fox, while I showered, and between songs the DJ welcomed all “former XFM listeners”! All they would say is that XFM went out of business. Huh? How does a radio station go out of business in a matter of minutes? I mean, wouldn’t they know they were going out of business? Why would they be hosting events and running contests that they’d never even get to? Why would they cut off in the middle of the day, instead of at midnight? I don’t get it.
