MyDoom is not YourDoom

It seems that I have become the target of evil virus spreaders!! Okay.. so anyone with a computer is a target, but where on earth is it coming from??? Every day I get at least 2 or more emails from strangers with nasty attachments, most likely harboring the spawn of "MyDoom" (the latest super virus, set to go off on Feb 1st). Thing is, these aren't coming to my Hotmail or Junkmail email accounts, which I use anywhere and everywhere.. They are coming to my personal email address, which I was very careful not to give out to websites so that I wouldn't be inundated with spam mail. I only gave this address out to friends, actual people, and ONE website - Yahoo Groups. So, the process of elimination tells me that either someone who has me in their address book has this virus in their computer and is spreading it around by accident, OR Yahoo sold my email and it got around. I do believe Yahoo sold my email, actually, because my carefully guarded address has had a few spam mails coming in. Grrr. If it wasn't more than likely that it's all in their "User Agreement" that I said "yes" too, I'd be mad enough to sue!!

But on the chance that it may be a contact of mine - this warning goes out to everyone who knows they have my eternalnight email addy in their address book. Someone out there may be infected and spreading the virus! In fact, someone who doesn't read this journal (Crystal) is the most likely one to have this, since she forwards me every gawd-damned forward, chain mail, etc, that she gets from who-knows-who and where. That girl has a serious case of the internet newbies!!!

Oh, and although I never open any attachments and shouldn't have anything spreading through my system, if you get an email from me with an attachment, delete it! I never send anyone attachments. If I want to send someone something, I usually find them on MSN.

I could just ignore that this is happening, but instead I'm going to fix it. As of today I am deleting my eternalnight email address. Actually, what's going to happen is I'm going to magically transform it into a forwarding account, and set it to send any mail to my junkmail account. That way, if I forget to tell someone my new address, I won't miss their mail! My junkmail account is designed to get all the crap, so just let them TRY to send me a virus! :P

Tonight I'll go through my address book and send out a note to let everyone know my new main email account. Anyone who's not in my address book or who are visitors of this site can email me at cydonia1978@hotmail.com

And so I end January with this: To whoever began the MyDoom virus and/or whoever keeps sending it to me... Take your MyDoom and stick it up your ahhh! (and no, I don't want a cookie)

More computer jargon...

Here's something very confusing to me. Why on earth have they changed HTML so much?? The old HTML still works, and is far easier to understand/read/manipulate and is succient.

Here's what a line of code looks like as per Netscape's Composer:

[small][span style="font-family: helvetica,arial,sans-serif;font-style: italic;"] text here [/span][/small]

Here's the exact same thing written the old fashioned way:

text here

Which is better? Maybe I'm reluctant to change, but I think the "old fashioned way" looks much better, and is far easier to read. Think about when you have a page FULL of this shit... less is more! Plus, there's the problem of compatibility. What one browser thinks is the best thing since sliced bread, another browser won't touch with a 10 foot pole! But the old way is compatible on all (or most) browsers.

There's my rant for the day. :P

Not recognized

Here's my computer's opinion...

C:\> "fuck" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Ya, that's funny. I'm pissed because for some reason I'm getting a rather mysterious "Gateway Timeout" whenever I try to go to one of MY websites.. either URL. And a few other sites, it seems, although I only found one and it was a random blog I was going to check out, so I dunno. I did a search on it from Netscape's search (cuz Netscape rox, I dun care what you say) and found some forum where someone in Alberta had that problem and got help... but I'm feeling really lazy and don't want to sign up to some forum right now. I'll hope for it to clear up in a day or two. THEN I'll get bitchy. And Telus should watch out - I'm about 5-7 days away from PMS-time... *threat*
